Phone Calls

Detention Services

Detention Services recognizes a youth’s need, and right, to maintain contact with persons outside the facility. Each youth has the right to adequate access to a telephone and are allowed phone contact with parents or guardians. Staff do not listen in on a youth’s conversations, but recorded conversations may be retrieved if there is reasonable suspicion to believe that criminal activity or a threat to the safety and security of the facility are occurring.

After a youth’s initial 24-hour phone call they are permitted to make two (2) 10 minute phone calls per week regardless of level status. All calls are free and youth are not deprived phone calls as a disciplinary sanction. Additional phone calls are utilized as an incentive as part of the behavior management system. In the event the parent/guardian is not available on the first attempt, additional efforts are made within the allotted timeframes.

All youth are allotted time on Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 4:00 pm and 10:30 pm.

Youth whom reach Level 3 through the facility’s incentive program are afforded a 3rd phone call. These calls occur on Sundays from 8:00 am-10:00 pm.
